Fantasia and ground bass

composer

Written in 1960, the Fantasia and Ground Bass for organ is a product of Dyson’s Indian Summer – a beautifully-made piece of happy invention, melodious and unportentous in character. Although Dyson’s career started in the organ-loft when he was a boy, only in the last decade of his life did he start to compose for the organ; in this he curiously resembles Parry.
