Since becoming Prize Laureate of the Honens Prize for Piano in 2012, Pavel Kolesnikov has been winning hearts around the world. In his second recording with Hyperion he presents a selection of 24 Chopin mazurkas; from the earliest examples dating from his teenage years, through to the rich maturity of Op 59 No 2 from 1845. Among many highlights here are a magical rendition of the famous last mazurka of the set Op 17, and the treatment of the subtle complexities of Op 24. Highly recommended.
