One of the pleasures of the summer was the late nights spent at the BBC Proms in the company of Alina Ibragimova playing Bach.

On this disc she plays not solo Bach (she has already recorded much of that) but five violin concertos, two of them in their original form, the other three reconstructed from keyboard concertos. In the company of the 12-strong period-instrument group Arcangelo and conductor Jonathan Cohen all five come across as full-scale concertos, though their sound remains light and clear.

The spirit is lively, the expression spontaneous, the musicianship a delight.
