After her acclaimed English Songbook, Coote crosses the Channel with her preferred pianist for this fine programme featuring almost every key French song composer. It begins and ends with Poulenc—two louche waltz-time numbers, Les Chemins de l'amour and Voyage à Paris—but bouquets at the heart include Chabrier's Toutes les fleurs, Fauré's Fleur jetée, Chausson's Le Temps des lilas and Berlioz's Spectre de la rose. Coote is in sumptuous voice, Johnson in his element.
