Cornysh Jr.: Stabat mater

The only album dedicated to the extraordinary music of "William Cornysh". A man of remarkable intelligence, Cornysh the Younger was well known in his lifetime not only as an outstanding musician, but also as a poet, dramatist and actor. As a musician Cornysh had the most prestigious employment at the court of Henry VIII—as Master of the Children of the Chapel Royal—which he fulfilled from 1509 until his death in 1523. The sacred works are now thought to be by his father, Cornysh the Elder, about whom little is known.

The Salve regina, Ave Maria, mater Dei and Gaude virgo mater Christi are also available on the specially priced double album The Tallis Scholars sing Tudor Church Music – 1.
