Reviews

‘The music is fascinating. Readers interested in trying medieval repertoire could hardly do better than start here’ (The Penguin Guide to Compact Discs)
The confident strut of this justly famous piece, articulating as it does in very direct (almost ballad-like) strophic fashion the prevalent mood of popular celebration at the king’s exploits, would have made it a singularly appropriate statement for his well-documented return to London after his great victory, alongside the giant, lion, antelope and larger-than-life figure of St George who leered down on the assembled populace from their lofty perches on London Bridge.
