The E minor Sonata begins with an Introduction and Vivace transcribed from Cantata No 76 (oboe d’amore, gamba, continuo)—the whole movement short and preface-like, as indeed it is in the cantata. The Andante has all the hallmarks of early Bach, something written in his early twenties, a sweet, rather moving melody, short-breathed and repetitive, but very touching. The fugal finale is in a more mature style, elegant and intricate.

Die Sonate in e-Moll beginnt mit einer Introduktion und einem Vivace, die aus der Kantate Nr. 76 (dort für Oboe d’amore, Gambe und Continuo) transkribiert sind—der ganze Satz ist kurz und gleicht einer Vorbemerkung, wie er auch in der Kantate erscheint. Das Andante weist alle Merkmale des frühen Bach auf, als habe er sie mit Anfang zwanzig geschrieben: eine liebliche, recht bewegende Melodie, kurzatmig und voller Wiederholungen, aber ausgesprochen ergreifend. Das fugale Finale ist in einem reiferen Stil gehalten, elegant und komplex.
