The cantata in which this chorale appeared (No 93) was first sung on the fifth Sunday after Trinity, 1724. It sets the fourth verse, which proclaims that he who trusts in God ‘knows the right season for joy’. It has two imitative obbligato parts, and the chorale melody is in the alto.

Die Kantate, in der dieser Choral erschien (Nr. 93), wurde erstmals 1724, am fünften Sonntag nach Trinitatis, gesungen. Sie bildet den vierten Vers, der verkündet, daß der, der an Gott glaubt ‘die rechte Zeit der Freude’ kennt. Sie enthält zwei nachbildende Obligato-Stimmen, und die Choralmelodie wird von der Altstimme gesungen.
