The text is that of the Magnificat, set to the plainsong tonus peregrinus. This prelude appeared as a movement of a cantata (No 10) sung on the Feast of the Visitation, 1724 (Trinity 7). There it set the words ‘He, remembering his mercy, hath holpen his servant Israel’, a God-to-man relationship, the obverse of the man-to-God sentiments of the previous chorale.

Der Text stammt aus dem Magnifikat, der zum Gregorianischen Choral (Cantus planus) Tonus peregrinus instrumentiert worden ist. Dieses Präludium erschien als Satz einer Kantate (Nr. 10), die 1724 zum Fest der Heimsuchung Mariä (Trinitatis 7) gesungen wurde. Es ist eine Vertonung der Worte ‘Er, der sich seiner Gnade erinnerte, hatte seinem Diener Israel geholfen’, die die Beziehung Gottes zu den Menschen darstellen, im Gegensatz zu den Gefühlen der Menschen Gott gegenüber, die in dem vorherigen Choral ausgedrückt werden.
