In Pavana Philippi Sweelinck takes a pavane that Peter Philips wrote while incarcerated in prison in the Hague, and transmutes its characteristic keyboard figuration into something more vocal in style. At the end he appends a variation of his own, reverting to a more overtly keyboard manner.

Dans la Pavana Philippi, Sweelinck reprend une pavane que Peter Philips avait écrite lorsqu’il était incarcéré à La Hayes. Il transforma les figurations idiomatiques du clavier en un style empreint d’une plus grande vocalité pour ajouter, en conclusion, une variation de son cru qui renoue avec une écriture plus ouvertement destinée au clavier.

In der Pavana Philippi nimmt Sweelinck eine Pavane, die Peter Philips während seiner Inhaftierung in einem Gefängnis von Den Haag komponiert hatte, und verwandelt jene für Tasteninstrumente typischen Läufe in etwas Gesanglicheres. Am Ende fügt er eine eigene Variation hinzu, wobei er offen wieder zu einem dem Tasteninstrument eigenen Stil zurückkehrt.
