Scharwenka wrote twenty-nine so-called Polish National Dances in all, and the four that comprise his Op 47 (originally published as four mazurkas in 1879) must surely rank among the best. These are dynamic pieces, richly colourful and strongly rhythmic, and with much contrast both in tempo and mood, indicating in no uncertain terms Scharwenka’s origins!

Scharwenka composa vingt-neuf prétendues “Danses nationales polonaises” et les quatre qui constituent son op.47 (publiées à l’origine comme quatre mazurkas, en 1879) sont certainement parmi les meilleures. Ce sont des morceaux dynamiques, richement colorés et fortement rythmés, offrant des contrastes marqués de tempo et d’atmosphère, et révélant clairement les origines du compositeur!

Insgesamt schrieb er 29 sog. Polnische Nationaltänze; und die vier Tänze aus op. 47 (ursprünglich 1879 als Vier Mazurkas veröffentlicht), gelten sicherlich als seine besten. Es sind dynamische, farbige und sehr rhythmische Stücke,,äußerst kontrastreich in Temp und Stimmung, und sie weisen unmißverständlich auf Scherwenkas Herkunft hin.
