The Choral Prelude on ‘Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt’, BuxWV183, is based on a melody that J S Bach was to set in Das Orgelbüchlein (BWV637). The falling pedal figures of the opening bars seem to anticipate the pictorialism of Bach, but the gradually increasing animation, the rising figures in the final bars, and the right hand’s final flourish all seem to underline what Bach—in the interests of a single Affekt—chose to ignore: that the hymn is about man’s redemption as well as his fall.

Le Prélude-choral sur «Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt», BuxWV183, repose, de nouveau, sur une mélodie que J. S. Bach reprendra dans Das Orgelbüchlein (BWV637). Les figures de pédales descendantes des mesures liminaires semblent anticiper le figuralisme bachien, mais l’animation grandissante, les figures ascendantes des dernières mesures et l’ultime fioriture à la main droite paraissent souligner ce que Bach, intéressé par un seul Affekt, choisira d’ignorer: que cet hymne évoque la rédemption de l’homme tout autant que sa chute.

Das Choralvorspiel „Durch Adams Fall ist ganz verderbt“, BuxWV183, fußt auf einer Melodie, die J.S. Bach im Orgelbüchlein (BWV637) vertonen sollte. Die fallenden Pedalfiguren in den ersten Takten scheinen Bachs bildhafte Darstellungskraft zu antizipieren, doch die allmählich zunehmende Lebhaftigkeit, die aufsteigenden Figuren in den letzten Takten und die Schlussfigur in der rechten Hand scheinen alle zu unterstreichen, was Bach—im Interesse eines einzelnen Affekts—überging: dass das Lied sowohl von der Erlösung des Menschen als auch von seinem Fall handelt.
