Sarabesque for solo piano, like the epic Ghost Variations (1991), confirms George Tsontakis’s affinity for the piano. His writing revels in the sound of the instrument. Written for his friend Sarah Rothenberg, a pianist and Artistic Director of Da Camera of Houston, Tsontakis’s Sarabesque moves away from the well-known piano arabesques of Schumann and Debussy. In no way a simply decorative miniature, the piece conjures, in a few short minutes, a sonorous, open musical horizon.

À l’instar des épiques Ghost Variations (1991), Sarabesque confirme l’affinité de George Tsontakis avec le piano: son écriture se délecte de la sonorité même de l’instrument. Cette pièce composée pour son amie Sarah Rothenberg, pianiste et directrice artistique de Da Camera (Houston), s’éloigne des fameuses arabesques pour piano de Schumann et de Debussy. Loin d’être une miniature simplement décorative, elle fait surgir en quelques petites minutes un horizon musical retentissant, dégagé.

Sarabesque für Klavier solo, bestätigt George Tsontakis’ Zuneigung zum Klavier, wie die epischen Ghost Variations (1991). Seine Schreibstil erfreut sich am Klang des Instruments. Tsontakis’ Sarabesque wurde für die mit ihm befreundete Pianistin und Künstlerische Leiterin der Da Camera of Houston, Sarah Rothenberg, geschrieben und geht in eine andere Richtung als die bekannten Klavierarabesken von Schumann und Debussy. Das Stück ist keineswegs eine einfache dekorative Miniatur, sondern beschwört in ein paar kurzen Minuten einen klangvollen, weiten musikalischen Horizont herauf.
