The left hand version of Hungary’s God—a work whose root form is for voice, chorus and piano, and which also exists for piano, two hands—is Liszt’s only contribution to the literature for the left hand alone. It was arranged for his friend Count Géza Zichy—a formidable pianist, despite having lost his right arm, if his own left-handed version of Schubert’s Erl-King is anything to go by. (Liszt also arranged one of Zichy’s original works for left hand, Valse d’Adèle, for piano, two hands.)

La version pour main gauche de Dieu de Hongrie—ouvrage dont la forme originale était pour voix, chœur et piano, et qui existe aussi pour piano à deux mains—est la seule contribution de Liszt à la littérature pour main gauche seule. C’était un arrangement pour son ami, le Comte Géza Zichy—qui devait être un pianiste exceptionnel malgré la perte de son bras droit si sa propre version du Roi des Aulnes de Schubert est un exemple de ses dons. (Liszt arrangea aussi un des ouvrages originaux pour main gauche de Zichy, Valse d’Adèle, pour piano à deux mains.)

Die Version für die linke Hand von Ungarns Gott—einem Werk, das in der Urfassung für Solostimme, Chor und Klavier angelegt ist und das außerdem für Klavier zu zwei Händen vorliegt—ist Liszts einziger Beitrag zur Gattung Klaviermusik für die linke Hand. Das Arrangement war für seinen Freund Graf Géza Zichy gedacht—der, obwohl er den rechten Arm verloren hatte, ein beachtlicher Pianist gewesen sein muß, wenn man seine eigene Version für die linke Hand von Schuberts Erlkönig als Richtschnur gelten lassen will. (Liszt arrangierte außerdem eine Eigenkomposition Zichys für die linke Hand: den Valse d’Adèle für Klavier zu zwei Händen.)
