Stephen Montague

Stephen Montague is an Anglo/American composer born in Syracuse, New York, but grew up in Idaho, West Virginia, and Florida. He studied at Florida State and Ohio State universities then was a Fulbright Scholar in Warsaw at the Experimental Music Studio of Polish Radio before coming to London where he currently works as a freelance composer and concert organiser. His output covers a large range of interests from chamber and symphonic works for ensembles such as the Hilliard Ensemble and London Symphony Orchestra to more avant-garde works such as his Horn Concerto for klaxon horns and an orchestra of automobiles and numerous large scale theatrical works involving sometimes hundreds of performers. His work with ensemblebash began in the 1990s with the first commission, Chew Chow Chatterbox (1998), a short music theatre piece for noisy percussionists eating dinner and continues with various large and small scale projects.
