Marius Monnikendam

The Dutch composer Marius Monnikendam (1896–1977) studied the piano, organ and composition in Amsterdam and then in Paris, before returning to Holland as Professor of Composition at the Amsterdam and Rotterdam Conservatoires and becoming official court composer. He was also a prolific musical journalist and wrote books on Stravinsky and César Franck. Many of his wide-ranging compositions were based on religious texts.
