Gottlieb Conrad Pfeffel was born in Colmar and studied at the University of Halle. He became blind in his twenties but pursued a diligent career as a Protestant adminstrator in his home town. He is best remembered for his Fabeln
, in which he shows sympathy for the revolutionary ideals of France. Some of his work has been thought interesting enough to republish in Germany in the last twenty years.
