Hanover Band, The

The Hanover Band

The Hanover Band was formed in London by Caroline Brown in 1980. Its players are amongst the finest in their field and the orchestra has built an international reputation for the excellence of its performances and recordings of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century music, boasting an impressive discography of over 170 recordings for Hyperion, EMI, Nimbus, BMG, CPO and other labels. The orchestra’s list of directors reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of period instrument interpretation: Monica Huggett, Sir Charles Mackerras, Roy Goodman, Anthony Halstead, Nicholas McGegan, Richard Egarr, Nicholas Kraemer, Paul Brough, Andrew Arthur, Benjamin Bayl and Mahan Esfahani.

The Band regularly performs throughout the UK, and has toured throughout Europe, the USA, Canada, Mexico and Beijing, appearing in prestigious festivals and venues such as the Haydnfest, Eisenstadt Austria, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, De Doelen Rotterdam, Berlin Philharmonie, Cadogan Hall, BBC Proms, Usher Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Harvard and Princeton Universities, and UCLA in Los Angeles. Complementing its busy concert schedule, The Hanover Band has, since 1993, undertaken extensive education work, sponsored initially by Seeboard, throughout East and West Sussex. The orchestra is also delighted to nurture emerging artists as they finish training and join the music profession.
