Very different violinistic delights come from Tanja Becker-Bender and reveal the Respighi Violin Sonatas to be worth every exploratory penny. Péter Nagy makes his Hyperion debut at the piano. Further pleasant surprises come from the keyboard of Howard Shelley, his new recording of Spohr & Onslow Piano Sonatas proving a worthy complement to his epic Clementi series.

Contrasting vocal recordings welcome back the warm baritone of Robert Holl in a fourth volume of Graham Johnson's wonderful Brahms Songs cycle, and see John Potter, Christopher O'Gorman and Rogers Covey-Crump in Conductus, the first in a tripartite mini-series peering into the music and poetry of thirteenth-century France.
