Hyperion's Record of the Month for January 2012 welcomes the return of Alban Gerhardt and Cecile Licad in a delightful recital of Fauré Cello Sonatas along with the composer's other works for cello and piano. Tanja Becker-Bender bolsters her already impressive discography with a blistering addition to our Romantic Violin Concerto Series, the works of Max Reger drawing sumptuous accompaniment from the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Lothar Zagrosek.

Martin Roscoe inaugurates a new series presenting The Complete Dohnányi Solo Piano Music in all its sparkling perfection, a quality matched in the hugely under-valued Songs by Michael Head, these miniatures dating from 1918 to just before the composer's death in 1976 receiving devoted performances from Ailish Tynan, Catherine Wyn-Rogers and Roderick Williams, all accompanied by Christopher Glynn.

Reissues this month find Gothic Voices uncovering The Earliest Songbook in England, The Schubert Ensemble of London in admirable performances of Schubert & Hummel Piano Quintets, and The Parley of Instruments exploring the early operatic overtures written by Handel in Hamburg.
