Rosemary Joshua (soprano)

Rosemary Joshua was born in Cardiff and studied at the Royal College of Music, of which she is now a Fellow.

One of the most versatile lyric sopranos of her generation she has appeared on many of the world’s major stages including the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, La Scala, the Munich and Berlin State Operas and at the Glyndebourne and Aix-en-Provence Festivals. Her roles range from Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Despina (Così fan tutte) to the Vixen (The Cunning Little Vixen), Tytania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress) and Helen in the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn’s Orest. She is particularly associated with the music of Handel and has been acclaimed the world over for the title roles in Semele and Partenope as well as Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Angelica (Orlando), Ginevra (Ariodante), Poppea (Agrippina) and Nitocris (Belshazzar).

Equally in demand on the concert platform, she appears with many of the world’s finest orchestras and has sung with such conductors as Bicket, Bolton, Elder, Harding, Harnoncourt, Herreweghe, Jacobs, Mackerras, Norrington and Rattle.
