Sabina Cvilak (soprano)

Sabina Cvilak is quickly becoming one of the world’s leading lyric sopranos, enjoying an international operatic and concert career. Her US debut as Mimì in La bohème at the Washington Opera in 2008 was such a triumph that she returned the following season to play Micaela (Carmen) and Liù (Turandot), both in new productions. Other engagements have included La bohème (Mimì) at the Opera de Palma de Mallorca, the Finnish National Opera, and in Cologne, Otello (Desdemona) and Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) at the Palm Beach Opera, Smetana’s The Bartered Bride (Marenka) in Valencia, and Carmen (Micaela) in Pamplona, Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra of Glasgow, and Britten’s War Requiem at the Festival de St Denis in Paris. She has worked with such eminent conductors as Bruno Aprea, Marco Armiliato, Semyon Bychkov, Placido Domingo, Mikko Franck, Daniel Harding, Marek Janowski, Fabio Luisi, George Pehlivanian, Peter Schneider, Emmanuel Villaume, Ralf Weikert, Keri-Lynn Wilson, and Simone Young. Sabina Cvilak was born in Maribor (Slovenia) and graduated in Ljubljana where she studied with Annemarie Zeller and Kurt Widmer.
