Marcus Farnsworth (baritone)

Marcus Farnsworth read music at the University of Manchester, graduating with a first class honours degree, before completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in 2011. His awards include first prize in the 2009 Wigmore Hall International Song Competition and the Song Prize at the 2011 Kathleen Ferrier Competition.

His opera performances include Eddy in Mark Anthony-Turnage’s Greek, Novice’s Friend (Billy Budd), and the title role in Britten’s Owen Wingrave. He has also performed as Kilian (Der Freischütz) with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis, Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas) with the Early Opera Company, and Eight Songs for a Mad King by Peter Maxwell Davies with the Wermlands Opera Orchestra.

Marcus appears regularly singing Bach Cantatas and Passions (Christus and Arias) with the Academy of Ancient Music and the Gabrieli Consort, and has given recitals with James Baillieu at Wigmore Hall. He has also performed with Simon Lepper, Iain Burnside and Graham Johnson, and Julius Drake and Malcolm Martineau at the Wigmore Hall Britten Festival.
