He has won prizes at several international piano competitions, including first prize and the ‘Grand Prix Ivo Pogorelich’ at The Stravinsky Awards in the USA. He was also a finalist at both the 1999 Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels, Belgium and at the XXI Concours Clara Haskil in Vevey, Switzerland in 2005.
He has performed with leading orchestras including the Wiener Philharmoniker, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Sinfonia Varsovia, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Festival Strings Lucerne. He has also performed under much-respected conductors including Giuseppe Sinopoli, Dennis Russell Davies, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Louis Langrée, Sir Neville Marriner, Christopher Hogwood, Philippe Entremont, Kirill Petrenko, Lawrence Foster and Walter Weller. Numerous concert tours have taken him to the USA (Carnegie Hall in New York City, Washington DC, Krannert Center in West Palm Beach), the UK (Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall), Japan, Hong Kong, South America, West Asia, Africa and many European countries where he has performed in all of the most musically prominent cities. He also participated in the international series ‘Rising Stars’.
He has performed at numerous renowned festivals which include the Lucerne Festival, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Beethovenfest Bonn, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Tonhalle Zürich, Festival de Wallonie and Singapore Arts Festival. Wallisch’s debut at the Salzburg Festival drew particularly high levels of critical acclaim. Additionally, he has performed at the Musikhalle Hamburg, the Kölner Philharmonie, De Doelen in Rotterdam, the Budapest Spring Festival, December Nights in Moscow and, for his China debut, with the Camerata Salzburg in Beijing and Guangzhou. Wallisch performed a cycle of concerts in the Musikverein Vienna in honour of the lives of Mozart and Haydn.
In addition to his substantial work as a soloist, Wallisch is also a passionate performer of chamber music. He holds the position of Professor of Piano at the Geneva University of Music as well as the position of visiting professor at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. His talent and many achievements have led to him being named a ‘Steinway Artist’.
