Daniela Barcellona (mezzo-soprano)

Daniela Barcellona was born in Trieste, Italy, where she studied under the guidance of Alessandro Vitiello. She has won many competitions, including the Aldo Belli in Spoleto, Iris Adami Corradetti in Padua, and the Pavarotti International in Philadelphia. Daniela has performed to great acclaim at opera houses across Italy, including in Verdi’s Falstaff and Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia at La Scala Milan; in Rossini’s Tancredi and La donna del lago at Rossini Opera Festival (Pesaro); in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at Teatro Regio (Turin); and in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville and The Italian Girl in Algiers at Teatro dell’Opera (Rome). Internationally, she has performed at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Teatro Real (Madrid), Wiener Staatsoper, and the Metropolitan Opera (New York). She has also appeared as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic and the orchestra of the Bayerische Rundfunk, and appeared in Rossini’s Semiramide at the 2016 BBC Proms. She has collaborated with some of the greatest conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-whun Chung, Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Kent Nagano, Georges Prêtre and Wolfgang Sawallisch. She has won many major awards, among them the Italian Premio Abbiati, the ‘Lucia Valentini-Terrani’ and ‘Aureliano Pertile’ awards, and an Opera Award.
